How we install artificial turf that lasts
Turf only looks as good as what’s under it. Ripples, puddles and pet odor almost always trace back to a rushed base.
Remove and grade
Old grass, roots and rock come out. We grade the soil so water drains away from the house and toward a safe outlet.
Compacted rock base
3 to 4 inches of crushed rock, compacted in layers, gives a flat, firm surface that drains fast in monsoon storms.
Weed barrier
A barrier under the base stops weeds and Bermuda runners from pushing up through the turf.
Hidden seams
Seams are cut along the grain and glued on seam tape, so you see one continuous lawn, not strips.
The right infill
Silica sand for weight and upright blades, or odor-control infill in pet areas. Cooling infill options are available.
Locked-down edges
Edges are nailed and set against edging so spring winds can’t lift or curl the turf.

Myth vs. fact
“Artificial turf is maintenance-free.”
Fact: it needs brushing to keep blades upright, rinsing in pet areas and an occasional infill top-up. It’s much less work than a lawn, but not zero.

“Turf is always better for water bills.”
Fact: turf uses no irrigation water, but a small Bermuda area on efficient sprinklers can be reasonable. Often the best savings come from shrinking the grass area and xeriscaping the rest.
