Planting beds
What do new planting beds look like?
A well-built planting bed has a clean edge, plants spaced for their full size, and a mix of structure and color: palms or agave for shape, cordyline and grasses for contrast, and shrubs that hold the corners. Drip goes in before the plants, and rock or mulch finishes the surface.

Edging and rock
How are edging, rock borders and weed barrier installed?
Edging goes in first, set in a trench to hold the line between lawn and bed. Weed barrier is cut and laid around each plant, then covered with rock or mulch two to three inches deep. River rock borders frame beds and keep rock from spreading into the lawn.

Irrigation and lighting
What do drip irrigation and landscape lighting look like when installed?
Drip line is laid through the bed before planting, so each plant gets an emitter at its roots and the tubing disappears under rock or mulch. Low-voltage landscape lights are set along bed edges and paths to light plants and walkways without glare, then wired to a timer.

Lawns, trees and cleanup
What does lawn care, tree planting and cleanup work look like?
Regular lawn care means even mowing, trimmed edges and clear paths. New trees are planted with room to grow and their own water. Cleanups remove weeds, old soil and debris so beds can be rebuilt, and new plants wait in their pots until the beds are ready.

Pavers and prep
What do paver and site-prep projects look like?
Paver driveways and patios start with a compacted base and edge restraints, and some designs leave open cells for grass or gravel. Many projects also start with a plain, bare strip along the house, which is the blank canvas for a new bed, border or walkway.
